"La Jolla Shores Tomorrow" claims the Whitney building will look like one of the perspectives below
The truth is....these false and misleading 40' tall images of our building were created by Mr. Naegle. They has been used to garner support and signatures against our project. They have been widely distributed throughout our community and appear on “La Jolla Shores Tomorrow” website to discredit the actual design of our building. Additionally, these images has been displayed at public meetings to influence and deceive the decision makers by Phil Merten an architect, LJCPA Trustee and a current member of the La Jolla Shores Permit reveiw committee.
The truth is....."La Jolla Shores Tomorrow" is a non-profit group created by Vaughn Woods and Mr. & Mrs. Naegle to oppose our building. Donations to "La Jolla Shores Tomorrow" will be used primarily to fund their legal fees for the ongoing appeals and litigation of our building.
"La Jolla Shores Tomorrow" claims the Whitney Mixed Use building will forever change the "Aesthetics and Character" of La Jolla Shores
"La Jolla Shores Tomorrow" claims it is an organization established to preserve and protect the unique character of La Jolla Shores.
The truth is....In 1991 the "Aesthetics and Character" of La Jolla Shores was changed from one and two story dwellings to three story buildings when Mr. Naegle and his wife developed two three story townhomes on this block. The image below and City records show it was Dale's vision for the entire block to be series of three story townhouses.
In 1990 this was the "Aesthetics and Character" of the 2200 block of Avenida de la Playa before Dale built his two three story townhomes.
Today we have a block that has evolved from small one and two story dwellings to three story buildings, 30 feet in height, built right on their property lines with minimal setbacks.
This picture from our back patio shows the Naegle's three story townhouse is built right on our property line looming over our single story home.
This picture clearly demonstrates the evolving "Aesthetics and Character" of La Jolla Shores from one story buildings to three story buildings as envisioned by Dale.
The truth is .....Our neighbor, Dale Naegle, was our original architect. The image below was his vision for our property. When we made the decision this was not the direction we wanted to pursue, he was paid in full for his services and we parted ways on good terms. Shortly thereafter, our disgruntled former architect, his wife and Mr. Vaughn Woods formed a small but vocal group called "La Jolla Shores Tomorrow" in opposition to our building, to protect and preserve the Naegle's private view.
The "La Jolla Shores Tomorrow" claim that the Whitney Mixed Use building will forever change the "Aesthetics and Character" of La Jolla Shores.
The Truth is......There is currently 22 buildings within a 3 block radius that are three to five stories tall with FAR that range from 1.8 to 3.6.

Ironically, while this group claims they want to preserve and protect La Jolla Shores the Naegle's and Mr. Woods own buildings are in serious violation of the San Diego Municpal Code and the LJSPDO. Each has been recently cited by the City of San Diego for unlawful conversion of their carport or garage, non-permitted use of their retail ground floor space and illegally posted signage on and off their property.
A Picture is worth 1000 words!
In August 2012 I wrote a Open Letter to City Councilmember Sherri Lightner. She told the La Jolla Light not to print the below photograph with my letter. I wonder why? She is seen here with Myrna Naegle the founder of "La Jolla Shores Tomorrow". I am sure their relationship had nothing to do with Mrs. Lightner requiring us to complete a EIR for our 4,000 square foot infill lot, next door to Mrs. Naegle's home. Yea right!
